For 60 years (1908 -1968) Dutchman Frits Wiersma lives for his sport. He starts as a racing cyclist (1908 - 1927) and is a motor pacer since 1928. Although he is quite a succesful cyclist, who can make a living out of his races, the pacer years become his golden years.
Frits Wiersma is my grandfather.
Today publications about Frits and and his contemporaries are scarce. And motor pacing, with heavy bikes, untill the 50's these races are major sportevents, is a thing of the past in The Netherlands.
By telling and illustrating their stories, I want to record a part of my family history, and also make a contribution to the Dutch Bycicle History.
For me blogging is first of all an easy way to make, amplify, arrange, and share notes.Therefore your reactions and comments on that notes will be very much appreciated.
To make this blog work internationally, I will try to keep it bilingual: Dutch and English.
